The wedding ring has been worn on the third finger of the left hand since Roman times. The Romans believed that the vein in that finger runs directly to the heart. The wedding ring is a never-ending circle, which symbolizes everlasting love.

Could you imagine if it was worn in the middle finger instead...Oh, man!
-
Cause I want her to give handjobs with her right hand?
-
Because there's a capillary or a vein or something like that, that supposedly leads straight to the heart
-
...because you live in America. In Europe the wedding ring is on the right "ringfinger", the engagement ring is on the left hand.
-
I have read it is because the vein in that finger leads directly to the heart! :)Except going left-to-right, it is on the second finger.:)

I guess that is the only finger which does not have any use.We use all other fingers for expressing something. We give thumbs up,point out things, middle finger for whatever and the small finger for telling the teacher that I want to go to the loo. That leaves us with the third finger.LOL!
