The scariest movie I have ever seen is a home movie of my Aunt Betsy wearing a T-back during the 4th of July barbecue !
I'll send you a copy if you want ! ;-)
I am a horror movie addict.
I tend to prefer the older ones- Hammer horrors I love, Hitchcock films (particularly "Psycho") are great. And I like some of the odler silent films (Such as "The Cabinet of Dr Caligari")
Getting onto later years I like "Night of the Living Dead" and the Vincent Price films such as "House of Wax"
I'm not so keen on modern horror movies- the older films tend to be more subtle and atmospheric. "Psycho" builds the idea of claustrophobia, inability to escape. The old Hammer films, although gory at times, didn't rely too heavily on special effects, they depended more on script and performance- the actors back then were generally far better, the scripts more sparse. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee could convey huge amounts of terror, resolve, sexuality with just a flick of an eyebrow whereas these days horror films tend to be full of teenagers babbling at each other and screaming too much.
My favorite all-time horror film is "The Wicker Man" (original version) Edward Woodward's performance is sensational. One of the reasons I refuse to see the remake is because I can't see how the building feeling of isolation and panic and being trapped on an island could possibly work in a modern setting where we have internet and mobile phone connections.
True horror is difficult to do in the modern world.
There are some modern horror films I like, of those I think my favorite is "Ginger Snaps" a film that was really more sad than it was frightening, but very clever, it managed to evoke the desperation of being a teenage girl, of losing an older sister to the world of boys and sex. And one of my favorite lines from a movie:
"I had this ache inside, and I thought it was for sex, but really it was to tear everything to f***ing pieces."
I always feel like the role of horror is to talk about horrific things via metaphor, to find a language for the unspeakable. The best films are those that understand and embrace that. Horror isn't about gore, its about fear- and not just the fear of the killer lurking round the corner.
You don''t sound as if you've seen very many of them if those are your choices (no offense).
I'll go with The Exorcist, The Shining (the original), Halloween (the original), and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original).
Yes.
The movie that has scared me the most ( I am not saying this is THE scariest movie - - no one will ever agree on that , in my opinion. And I've seen a lot of scary films. )
is George Romero's original 1968 " Night of the Living Dead "
The Exorcist and Jaws scared the crap out of me when I was younger.
Saw movies.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show ... not very scary.
Exorcist always made me cringe, but so does The Shining. Those twins are sooo creepy.
The Thai version of The Shutter. Scary as hell.
I like the classic horror movies and hate the new slasher type films. I think my favorite old film was "THe Raven" with Bela Lugosi. In more modern times I might go with "THe Exorcist."
my favorite is texas chainsaw mass. the new version. I when i saw it I had to sleep with the lights on as well as the tv on for 2 weeks, it was scary!! but i loved it.
I love horror movies, and as far as what kind goes, I'm really not picky at all. At least, I'll never dismiss a single one. :)
I love scary, gory, graphic ones, just as much as mystery, mind-screw ones. My favorite ones, off top of my head would be the Exorcist, The Omen (the original) and The Omen 2, Saw 1 & 2, Amityville 2, Rose Red, Psycho, The Shining...I can go on and on.
I love them, but my favourite is the ORIGINAL Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That is the only one to date that has frightened me
I like them. The scariest movie to me is Land of the Dead.
I LOVE scary movies... blood guts gore i can do without, but a genuinely "scary" movie; Luv em
:) Hell, it's my avatar !
1968 " Night of the Living Dead "
Night of The Living Dead (1968).
I really do not care for horror movies. I think the scariest one I have seen was when I was still married to my 2nd husband. The name of it is "It's Alive." It was back in the 70's. I had my head buried in my husbands shoulder through most of the movie. Yikes!
Nowadays Ghost Whisperer is spooky enough for me! lol I am actually getting addicted to Ghost Whisperer. Since I only started watching it about a month ago, all the reruns are new to me too so I can watch it 5 days a week! :-)
The Classic Night Mare on Elm street, its old I know but it is the first horror I ever watched :)
I have to give credit to The Exorcist. That's the scariest horror movie I've ever seen.
i love the 1976 carrie
amityville horror original +5
I love watching them, it's like my passion. I don't discriminate much between genres of horror, old or new-or I'll watch whatever, as long as I haven't seen it before.
My "favourite" is Halloween II, because it's one of the few horror films which genuinely traumatized me ha ha, so it has a place in my heart. There are plenty of others that I love though, in fact I have a hard time bashing horror films and not enjoying them. When I do criticize it, it's always with the knowledge that they're supposed to be fun, that the cheese factor is a part of it and all. I enjoy picking them apart, but I don't do this because I don't like them; as I say, horror movies are my hobby.
I do like some of them like, like??? I can't think of a single name! Sorry. Oh, that Tom Cruise Alien move. What's the name?
Halloween ( Rob Zombies) and Devils rejects.

I love them but I don't find many of them scary.I'm going to go with a very original answer and say The Exorcist!*note sarcasm*
I like mysteries and psychological thrillers. I don't like zombie, werewolf, or vampires films.
I liked "Jeepers Creepers"
"The Exorcist" directors cut
"The Omen 1" was gr8!
"Alien" (original)
"Event Horizon"
