Do Mormon boys only have the option of doing a two year mission at age 19, or are there other missions with different time frames?

    I don't believe a "Mission-lite" is an option; the full two-year commitment is required.

    That said, missionaries can get themselves excused once they're on the mission, though it's looked upon very unfavorably. The expectation is that the full two-year service will be completed.

    No, it is the other way around. Like during the war draft--if you serve a mission you can avoid being drafted into the military. As for mission lengths, you can always extend your mission, but they are generally two years.

    I have read that they can get excused their mission if they serve in the Military. Can anyone tell me if this is true?

    On average LDS (Mormom) boys leave on missions at 19 but sometimes and in certain circumstances they will leave when they are 20 or older. Boys are encouraged to serve missions and they have the option to do so until they are about 25 or 26. However if they have not entered the mission field by that age they are encouraged to continue with their education and finding someone to marry.
