Did an advanced civilization exist somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean around 9000 BC?

Probably not that early, or in that location. The legends about Atlantis, and the sparse evidence lending support to the theory of Atlantis, lean more towards the Mediterranean Sea, around 3000 BC, at the earliest. (I might be remembering the timelines wrong, though)

There are too many inconsistencies with human history to say that there was not an advanced civilization. The hammer in the coal, the human foot print in the same strata as a dinosaur foot print. We believe we know exactly what happened, but I fear due to skeptics and "what the governement says" we may never know. Until we find some kind of irreputable evidence. As it stands everyone and their dog has a reasons for the prehistorical human inconsistencies.
