Why do mis-hits of golf shots, especially with irons, sting so much?

    The Special One

    I remember when I first started, and sometimes even now when I screw up a bit, I'd hit behind the ball a good two inches and my back would hurt SO badly. But, it is because you're swinging a steel stick at high speeds into the ground in an awkward, torquing motion.
