  • (http://www.aaawebmaster.com/canary/breeding.htm) yes, canaries are similar to all other birds in that they lay eggs as part of the reproduction process. A healthy chick resulting from an egg depends on many factors. Follow the link above for more information
  • What I mean is, some birds just lay an egg. And the egg is nothing. Like Cockatiels, the females aly an egg, but the egg is just an egg, not a chick or anything. Right?? What I mean is, can a female just produce an egg out of nowhere??
  • no, canaries do not lay eggs, they are delivered by fedex and to get another bird you go to the pet shop and order one.
  • All birds lay eggs. In order to have a hatchling, though, you have to a pair of birds, male and female. Without a male, the egg cannot be fertilized.
  • "An adult female can lay eggs without fertilization or mating. Obviously these eggs will not hatch." 1) "Even if you separate the hen she will still lay eggs. I usually breed for a few months and then put all the breeders back into the big open flight to help strengthen the birds and to give them a break from breeding. I will often put a nest in the big open flight and sometimes the hens will lay eggs but I have never had any babies raised this way." " http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/809278 2) "In early embryonic life there were two gonads in the female, normally only the left one develops, the right being found functionless rudiment. The left ovary is attached to the dorsal wall close to the left kidney. When in functional condition it appears as a cluster of many yellow vascular spheres which vary in size which is not visible to the unaided eye. In the ovary of a non-laying hen, the ova are all small perhaps none being more than l/4 inch in diameter. An adult female can lay eggs without fertilization or mating. Obviously these eggs will not hatch." Source and further information: http://compepid.tuskegee.edu/syllabi/pathobiology/pathology/avianmed/chapter1.html
  • Yes, female birds lay eggs. But they don't necessarily lay fertile eggs unless there is a male and they mate together and it is a successful mating. So just because a bird lays an egg does not mean you will get another bird.
