People keep sending me e-mails saying that after November 1, 2006 MSN will no longer be free. Is this true?

    This is a hoax. There have been all sorts of rumours like this for the past five years at least, many different variations, and it has never been the case.

    If they did charge a fee, they would lose a massive amount of users.

    There are also a few other services that are no longer being offered, but I see no sign at all that email will not be free.

    No. These messages often also state that Microsoft or Messenger is tracking the emails. That's illegal and won't be happening anytime soon. If they were going to shut it down and start charging you would be sent a direct email from the company stating that if you wanted to keep the account you would have to re-sign up on a payment plan.
