I would recommend college and get familiar with macromedia flash and adobe photoshop!!! You'll most likely need to have someone thats already inside the game design bussiness too.( would really help)

Game design is a specialized profession; first you need specialized education in this subject. A degree in game design is preferable. Some people enter game design with a degree in a related area, which might be something like Filmmaking, computer science, or Industrial Design. The skills you will need, that a good college will teach you include: Story and narrative, Basic design skills, color, Drawing, perspective, object design, character design, animation, user interface design, architecture, game play, prototyping methods, testing methods and teamwork. You will also learn a wide variety of software including, typically: 3D Studio Max, Maya, Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver and Z-Brush, as well as various game engines such as Unreal.
