I'd recommend clipping the dog in the spring as it heats up and keeping the coat short in the summer, then stop clipping it in the autumn allowing it to grow longer for the winter. Most importantly don't bath her with shampoo in the winter as this will remove the natural oils in the coat which help to waterproof it and act as a wind shield. The length of the coat does make a difference to heat conservation, however, there are many other factors involved especially feeding-if the dog is outside for much of the time feeding extra in the winter will help. Monitor the weight of the dog though as you don't want it getting overweight! Take care and good luck
