NO!!!!sword is metaphoric...thou shalt not kill, do unto others; if this had BEEN SO , civilization would have killed itself off by now thinking each to righteous.... think about it...this is an inane question....
-
I am sure some would.
-
if people took that phrase out of conext in the bible, yes it would happen What was the crusades all about?
-
where does it say that??
-
The Bible does not say this and in no way can it be interpreted to mean that. Jesus said to preach the gospel to the gentiles and Jews alike, including all non Jews, not to kill them.

It's amazing how many people have jumped right into this question without reading it through. ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! The question started with "IF" people! "IF the Bible..." Come on now, can't anybody read anymore? To answer your question... No I wouldn't. I don't do anything because God told me to and I don't intend to start now. I uphold the law and do unto others as I would have them do unto me because that's is the way I am and I prefer to do so. Not because anyone's God told me to. Hope this helps.

I dont know about the "killing" part of your question...and I will answer the question at the end of my post.... But the phrase "spread the word of God through the sword" actually means 'spread the word of God, using the Bible'...the sword is the Bible....meaning you should use its context to help educate others about God. As for the question: I personally would never kill someone just because they didnt believe the way I was raised to believe. As others have stated, interpretation is left for man...and well, I happen to believe man has many errors, given that, I can not justify killing anyone (even in the name of God). I also feel that there are parts of the Bible that are meant to be "thought" about more so than to be taken literally. And one last thing...I think this world would be a much happier place if WE ALL let others believe their own ways...and stop trying to LITERALLY force "our way" upon others who differ from us... In others words, "Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."

No, only an ignorant, weak-minded religious nutcase would do that.
-
I would not follow a god who would ask me to destroy what he created. It's illogical. My God wouldn't do that.
-
The whole thing makes no sense.I know there is allot of violent passages in the bible, though they have nothing whatsoever to do with Jesus.
-
I would do it for personal gain....that's worldly gain, not stupid spiritual gain. That's for retards. It's kind of like the Umayyad Caliphate....lot's of worldly gain through doing "God's work."

they say that anybody can get a bad man to kill but to get a good man to do evil, it takes religion (or, more accurately, misunderstood religious dogma) ... remember that old saying, "your terrorist is my freedom fighter"? all religions, at one time or another, have used techniques that we'd all describe as terroristic to achieve objectives. soldiers are trained in tactics that often result in terror. personally, i am more open to accepting others' beliefs when they show love and consistency and something to which i can aspire. a sword at my throat will only get me to articulate whatever the soldier wants me to say without true internal change on my part.
