If you give students access to social networking sites during school hours the most the student will learn is what their friend's favorite movie is. Who would actually focus on the educational aspects of Facebook etc when they can chat with their friends and play games instead?

  • Based on my own research habits, I would say that SN venues can be used for this purpose. Although the degree of efficiency would be a great variable as many students first led to a SN site would then need to be led back out it and into research. My hypothesis is that students are regular customers in both socializing and researching on the web, and since the same keyboard is used for both, having a formal presence in the SN world is logical and probably wise.
