One gets worn on the feet, the other on the bum. It shouldn't be *that* hard to tell them apart.

a g string, which i prefer, is a piece of thin material shaped linearly that lies between your butt cheeks. a thong, on the otherhand, usually is shaped with a bit more material, often in a triangle, right above your butt. often the terms are used interchangeably, but believe me, they are not. i prefer the thinnest, sexiest and minimalist material wedged in my butt.
