What does the "IS" mean in the BMW 325IS model car?

    The i is for the word injection (meaning the car is fuel injected & does not have a carburettor)
    The S is for Shadowline (BMW-marketing word)

    i actually think that the "i" on all bmw 3 series models means inline. I have a 2002 330ci with an inline 6 engine. BMW makes lots of inline 6 (I6) engines as opposed to V6.
    as for the "s", i think it is sport.
