    I found a couple of different explanations:

    1) "Deuce" (two) is a slang term for "the Devil".

    2) A two is the lowest card in a deck. Gamblers apparently associated the two dollar bill with the "two" card.
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Well, well, well. Sounds like two dollar bills could very well be unlucky. Hey! Anyone out there need to change your luck? If you'd like to rid yourselves of the cursed currency, I can help. I'll send you my address and you can send those godforsaken, devil bills to me. I'll dispose of them in a safe and productive manner.
    Between the years 1920 and 1950, the two dollar bill was prevelant. All barbershops were historically closed on mondays, a good day for a lot of barbers to go to the racetrack. Racetracks also paid off with two dollar bills. When the day was over and the barbers went home, if they forgot to remove the two dollar bills, and their wives saw a two dollar bill in their wallets, the fights began. The wife would know the husband had been at the track. So barbers considered them unlucky and that superstition has just passed forward.
    An interesting bit of $2 trivia. When Touchstone Picture was filming portions of "Dead Poets Society" at St.Andrews School, Middletown DE in 1988, the production crew were paid exclusively in $2 bills... to demonstrate the effect that production had on the local economy.
    I was told way back when when politicians wantyed to buy someone's vote on election day they paid that person $2.00. so when the people went to the bar and paid with a $2.00 bill it was assumed they sold their vote
    I think its unlucky because the president on the front is not in full smile showing his teeth. If we could gaze into his smile and lose our sense of self then that would break the unluckyness about it. Long live the white tooth smile
    In today's economy any person thinking that any other person is going to send them a two dollar bill free is
    either a fool or a con artist. Take your pick, Lord,
    protect such persons as the con people; they should
    be ashamed of themselves.
    Many retailers have had major problems with $2.00 bills. Cashiers who were not cognizant of what they were doing mistakenly gave customers change for a $20.00 when they were given a $2.00. The situation can be much worse and even more costly now for retailers when cashiers are trying to multi-task, that's talking on the cell phone and attending to customers at the register. This mistakes didn't just happen in stores, it also happened to cab drivers and many other people who were making change in a hurry. Personally I have accidentally given away too much money so I decided to take all my $2.00 bills and mount them on my state wall map. Out of sight, out of mind, no mistakes.
    Money is money, why do we always use some kind of belief on everything!? Not only that, I haven't seen or whatever happen to the Big $1 coins not the .50cent coins, I'm talking about the coin that was the size of a miniture tea set plate. Remember? The only time I've seen those were at the antique shop.
    I heard that 2 dollars note is lucky. I was very happy several years ago when I saw it in a bank office. I was there to change some US dollars( I am from Europe)and I bought immediately the lucky 2 dollars. At least in Europe, 2 dollars notes are very rare, so I am very sure that at least here is lucky.
    Generally people are stupid. The two dollar bill is neat and unusual but to get superstitious over it just shows you why the American consumer is so easily swayed into scams. I'm much like the others, if your "weird/cursed money" scares you then give it to someone who will spend it. Maybe that will lift your curse and keep the economy going at the same time. Or send back to the government that issued it and demand some tax relief.
    The people that think the $2.00 bills are cursed are fools. This is the first time I've remotely heard that some people can think that money is bad luck. Hmmmm. You can contact me at devious@yahoo.com and I will take it from you. I have a whole stack, that I will not part with. Eventually it may be worth $3.00 and more when I have them all. Good day. Laughing all the way to the bank.
    As a child I was told it was lucky but after a friend revealed to me Satan's face in the background of the bill as an adult I thought of it as unlucky.Now ,after reading the comments about the bad luck and chaos on this page,"I'm convinced"! The bill is definitely unlucky.
    100$, 10$, 5$, 1$? The one taken or the one given?
    The only bad luck money is the money you don't have. Superstition, fear, apprehension, etc., are the works of the devil, which he slyly uses to keep us in mental bondage.
    it's unlucky, because that's all they have to spend, they don't have any more money but the remaining $2 bill in their pocket. Last bill really goes, they don't stay in your pocket. that's why it's unlucky!!!!!
    I believe that cash registers are to blame for the shop owner unwillness to take the $2. When they made the cash drawer, it was set up for $1, $5, $10, $20 and maybe a space to put checks (before debit cards...). No home for the $2 bill except for maybe under the cash drawer. That's my opinion...
    My grandmother always said that they were lucky. She would always give each of my 2 sisters, myself and my brother one for birthdays/holidays. In 1985 my parents house exploded due to a faulty install of a propane furnace. Lets just say that NOTHING survived the explosion/fire except my mom's Bible, an antique rocker, wedding album and ALL FOUR 2 dollar bills! I think that grandma was right :-)
    My grandmother didn't like them because she felt they could easily be mistaken for a $20. If you thought you got a $20 and gave change for it then check your wallet later and have a $2 bill, that would indeed be unlucky.
    Actually I believe the reverse is true. Years ago I sent my brother a $2 bill in his birthday card. He told me that when he went out that night to celebrate he used the two-dollar bill to buy a beer. The bartender made a remark about not seeing too many $2 bills and my brother told he he got it for his birthday. Well....the crowd at the bar told him he shouldn't spend his "lucky" $2 on his birthday and they all bought him a round of cold beers until closing time. (He took a cab home)
    While some people think that the U.S $2.00 bill is unlucky but lots of people in Vietnam loved to have it, never spend it and called it lucky money. Every time I travel to Vietnam, I always carry at least 100 $2.00 bills just to tips people at hotels, restaurants, night clubs,bars or give it to friends and I always receive a warm welcome and good services when I come back to those places. I give them lots of luck maybe.
    I believe the saying was "queer as a $3 bill" because those don't exist and if you see one then you know something is wrong.
    As far as the $2 bill my fiance collects them to give to his son. We consider them lucky because his son won't spend them because he considers them special. So when he is old enough we know he will have a good start to a savings acct.
    Because the $2 bill has a misprint. All of the US currency says, "In God we trust". But, on the $2 bill, if you look closely, it says, "In Dog we Trust".
    .
    And if you believe that, I just wanna say, hahahahah
