  • Trails and hiking.
  • Cannon Mountain.....great skiing
  • "New Hampshire Motor Speedway - Loudon Road Racing Series"
  • The nation's first primary. And only state with no seatbelt law - a comedian pointed out the ironic significance of the state slogan "Live Free or Die" - emblazoned on every license plate.
  • Like Vermont, many things all at once. - Home - Being invaded by flatlanders - Encroaching urban sprawl, ESPECIALLY from Walmart. Keene put in a major shopping plaza with all of the typical chains (Target, Home Depot, Circuit City, Olive Garden, and more) thus tripling our traffic and then screwed up the Route 9/10/12/101 bypass just to handle it. - No income tax or sales tax - No mandatory car insurance unless you have a car loan or an SR-22 - Mandatory annual vehicle inspections; I sweat those. Last I checked, only 18 states still did them. Oddly, we generally don't do emissions testing; if it doesn't trip the CEL on an OBDII car, it's clean enough. - Bad roads Lastly, one thing that didn't make news outside of the immediate area; THE FLOOD OF '05! I guess you have to be either poor and black or a corn farmer for the news to care when you get flooded out. Maybe we didn't make headlines because only four people died. Maybe the US really ends at the NY border and New England doesn't exist. It's bad enough losing one's house, but imagine losing the land it was on. Or a 12-foot culvert ripped out of the ground, destroying the road in the process, and washing nearly a mile downstream.
