Lots of ways. Yes, there is the scoring system. But gymnastics is all about physics, which is essentially math-based. What is the speed of the gymast as s/he approaches the vault? What angle does s/he have to jump at to hit the vault? How fast does s/he have to spin to do two revolutions before landing? Three examples, just with one of the disciplines! Then there's the whole "all-around" title, which could make for interesting questions in averaging. But I think they go by total points for the all-around, not the average of points - a specialist on one event could bump his/her average up. You could still do some averages by looking at teams and their scores on the particular disciplines.
