Help answer this question below.
A dragon boat is a long shallow craft designed to seat up to 12 people who can swim, greatly decorated in bright colors and designs including a dragon head and tail at either end.
Dragon boats are usually seen in large groups with adults equipped with too short paddles attempting to propell their craft ahead of every other dragon boat.
The goal is to:
have the most beautiful dragon boat,
have the fastest dragon boat,
fall in the water and get wet,
watch your bosses fall in the water and get wet,
watch the boat disintegrate before it crosses the finish line
eat lots of food
watch fireworks after changing into dry clothes and eating too much food
clean up the messy dragon boats
This festival can be witnessed in the Barkers Island Bay area in Superior WI in the third weekend of August each year.
Dragon boats were also the names for the viking longboats. They were a long, narrow ship of shallow draught, but were surprisingly seaworthy. The name Dragon Boat came from the fact that they had Dragon heads carved into the bow and stern.
