  • Braces are cosmetic, you will probably have a hard time finding a charity or state insurance to pay for it since it is not deemed medically necessary. Besides, I don't want my tax dollars going towards someone's braces when there are others with more serious issues that need covered.
  • no unfortunatly, medicaid does not pay for braces. although i feel they should pay something on the fees. children have a hard time feeling good about themselves if their teeth are out of line. not to mention the fact that crooked teeth can sometimes cause pain if they are biting down on the cheeks in their sleep or a nervous habit. tax dollars are going to issues alot less important to this.
  • Medicaid is a state run program. Therefore each state has different rules. Why don't you speak to your child's dentist and see if the can give you some suggestions.
  • well they do pay for braces both of my kids have braces and they will pay for them medicade
  • u go to ur dentist and they will let u no if ur child needs braces and they have to see another dentist that will submit it to medicade and then will approve it for u this is in new york state
  • I just saw a sign that said want free braces? are you between the ages of 10-21? do you have medicaid? I just couldn't get the number because I was driving, but will forward it to you again. I think your question is understood and no one want their children feeling uncomfortable. My child needs braces because when she was five a kid knocked her front tooth out and now it is causing all the other teeth to go wrong also. Good luck and God Bless.
  • As a dental hygienist, I know that in some cases they will pay for braces. Go to your dentist and talk with them about it. Depending on the state the Medical card will often pay for the consultation with the orthodontist. Not every orthodontist takes the medical card so check and find out which ones in your area do. Dental schools also a lot of times take the medical card for braces or if your child can't qualify for braces under the medical card they can offer reduced prices. Each state is probably different in what they offer and a lot of times the problem has to be pretty severe for them to cover it. Definitely check on it though. I've known lots of kids that have qualified and had it done.
  • I am having the same problem. My daughter needs braces too. Medicaid will not pay for them, but if she doesn't get them her two front bottom teeth WILL be pushed out by the top teeth. So now my husband and I are in a difficult spot. I wish you the best and hope you have better luck........And for the other guy who has a problem with medicaid paying for children to have braces, You must not know what it is like for your child to NEED something and you have no idea how you are going to get it for them. I hope you are never in that situation!
  • I certainly hope they do. Another problem that can be caused by NOT having braces is major jaw development. I have a jaw deformity, usually corrected by major surgery (which I had), but it can be corrected with braces if caught early enough. Braces will also stop any further medical issues due to the jaw problem such as TMJ among other things. Both my girls need braces for this reason. We applied for Medicaid for our children for the first time in our lives. Had we not lost our jobs, we would have paid for them. We have paid quite enough taxes during our working lives, so I should hope that we'd get something in the way of services, for the last 15 years. If we are unable to get them braces within the next couple of months, my girls jaws are going to need surgery also.
  • Yes. You must get a referral from you dentist for the NYU College of dentistry. I got them for my son and daughter, but they only do them there. It was wonderful. Hoped that helped.
  • Thanks guys for your answers. That is what is wrong with our world today, people like stormy do not care about the less fortunate. My son’s teeth are so out of line that he cannot speak the way he should because his tongue does not touch his teeth. He cannot even close his mouth and she wants to talk about cosmetic. His are a necessity not cosmetic.
  • i am having the same problem with my son. he is 9 and his insurance will not cover. i went to umdnj and they offer payment plans but want money upfront and in my case its hard i am a single mother of 3 and cannot afford braces and the time. his teeth are not complete in his mouth , they are shifting to the side and not letting other teeth come out causing it to stay stuck in the bone. and come on Ms. Stormy u have nothing else to do but complain now if it was for you to get your breast or something done then that would be ok .give me a break get a life. maybe when u have kids you'll know what its like to go through tough times. Maybe one day u'll realize what a selfish person u are and for that u will be punished, but then again u probably already have been punished.lol...
