  • This behaviour is pretty standard with younger boys. There is an old song that insists that "You always hurt the one you love," and this is often carried, with some into later years. It is probably a mechanism for them to get your attention, however mal productive that might be. If you would like to have him as a friend, you might try the straightforward approach, and tell him that you don't appreciate the meanness, but would like to be his friend anyway. This means that all the cards are on the table, and it is up him to deal with his bad behaviour. If you don't want to be friends, you could try ignoring him. Most boys grow out of this, eventually ; )
  • Because they are afraid to be nice. Boys don't learn how to be nice to girls until they're older. In order to feel like they're "cool", they're mean. That way, if they find out a girl doesn't like them, they can pretend that it doesn't matter and they won't be embarrassed.
  • Consider how boys typically treat their male friends. Teasing is a fairly common among boys who are friends and in fact can be a way to show friendship (i.e. by taking turns taking shots at each other verbally or even some physical contact but without it escalating into anything more than play fighting). In contrast, girls tend to build and maintain friendships by talking about their feelings on various matters. So when a guy, particularily a younger guy, likes a girl he might tease her to show that he wants to be friends (or even something more) because that is the behavior he uses among his guy friends. However, she may not recognize his intentions and may think that he is just being mean.
  • Because boys are mean. Throw rocks at them.
  • ow! ...my cranium edit: i think karmakitty has a pretty good thought going and i've had a few first hand experiences regarding it. a few years ago when i was in grad school my roomate and i were great friends and we would often make fun of each other and tease such as karma suggested. however, i really had to be careful sometimes about things i said to his girlfriend (whom i also considered a good friend). as a few things i said to her would have never bothered my roomate at all but did upset her quite a bit. what i thought was just some innocent teasing really hurt her feelings. hopefully i've learned something from that and won't get rocks thrown at me the next time i try and talk to a girl.
  • To get attention. (this doesn't work)
  • boys are too scared to show their sensitive side to a girl they like at first. once they know if you like them they might loosen up a bit..when boys get older though, they grow up more and start treating girls the way they should=)
  • Many boys and younger men see women as mysterious. We can't understand the way you think, especially how you think about relationships, and we have no experience of trust in a romantic partner, so the situation feels out of our control. If there's one thing guys want, it's control. Since we haven't had time to cultivate respect and trust, we put pressure on our partners as a display of dominance in hopes that they will submit to us, respect us, and we regain control of the situation. Why is getting respect and control so important to us? It seems to be an emotion as basic as attraction, if you haven't felt it, you cannot understand it. I hope this perspective helps.
  • they're juvenile.
  • maybe cuz they dont want to give and hints as to who they like or have a crush on.
  • Sometimes when a boy sees a girl he likes the first thing he does is annoy the girl without thinking what he is doing. Eventually he just keeps on doing it. Try to ignore him. If he sees it doesnt annoy you he will hate that you aren't giving him any attention.
  • Some boys can be like that because they want to be noticed. But as they get older and more mature they will learn that being mean to a girl is a turn off. Girls want to be treated with respect. It is very kiddish to tease or be mean to a girl when they like her.
  • Because we are born with a "stupid" gene that makes us think that being mean will make you like us. Isn't it wierd that when we become teenagers you girls practically have to hit US over the head with bats to get us to see that you like us? Like I said, it's the "stupid" gene. Seriously? It's because when we are young, it's not "cool" for boys to like girls, or girls to like boys. The truth is that we are attracted to each other even at young ages. We want to express that attraction, but are afraid of being made fun of, so we show it as hatred instead to fool the other guys. Like I said. STUPID!
  • beucase of there nice to girls, then their friends will make fun of them. and everyone knows how un cool it is for guys to make fun of them
  • Because their no mature
  • they like u thats why i had abit of a bad time with a boy i think he likes me because he keeps on looking at me and saying ewoo he knows i like him but he is really shy and everyone in the school knows that i like him now everyone has been going up to him and saying do u fancy her he said no so everone thinks he does not like he keeps on hanging around me and looking at me all the time i just hope he likes me!
  • That's never really happened to me. All the boys I ever started dating treated me like a princess (which I don't necessarily like). I actually like it when boys are playfully mean to me because I can play that game too and I usually end up showing them who's boss :)
  • Not all.Only some jerks are.
  • because they are resentful of feeling vulnerable. if a boy likes you he knows that you can hurt him, and boys hate that.
  • I had something like that a boy I like was being mean to me and looking all the time and keep saying ewoooo he is really shy and everyone in the school know I like him and everyone have been saying to him do u fancy her he said no and everyone thinks that he does not fancy me and I think he does please help
  • because girls only fall for the mean boys
  • I have asked him out and he said no but shy boys don't say yes!
  • Not all boys are mean to girls they like, Infact no boys at all should be mean to girls, they should treat em with upmost respect and if they dont, then there definatly not worth the time of day! Im a male myself, and i treat my wife, with upmost respect! i hate blokes that beat women and treat them like cr*p. they dont deserve a nice girlfriend, and if you are with a boy thats mean to you! then this is not a relationship you need. as ive seen boys start off been mean with words then it goes to hitting and thats when its way out of end! So my answer would be the reason boys are mean to girls is because there a few sanwitches short of a picnik.
  • no they fancy them i mean girls if they like them they get there attenion by being mean.
  • because they fancy them but they are so clumsy to let them understand with kindness that the only way they know is to be mean to them.
  • great because i know a boy in my school and he is really mean to me he knows i like him and he is only mean to me!my friends thinks he does not like me but i think he does he keeps on looking at me and being mean to me?
  • Oh, that's just an age thing. Boys are mean to girls, and women are mean to men.
  • It's sort of a defense mechanism. They don't know how to act. They're very uncomfortable with their feelings. Just grab them and give them a big fat kiss. That will probably fix the problem.
  • Because if you are too keen with a girl, then she knows you like her and makes less of an effort. To discuss extremes...creepy guys are too familiar and get no where. Quiet guys seem mysterious and require investigation. Once a girl knows you like her too much, she knows she can do what she likes. In short, it keeps girls on their toes (An unfortunate truth, but this game is necessary)
  • I think they like to see if they can get a reaction out of you, it is their way of playing with you, teasing, an excuse to interact with you.
  • I think the reason we are mean to girls we like is because we like to feel dominant over girls so we try to show how we are strong and can handle anything but in the end most guys would be happy cuddling on the couch and watching a movie or something (Sorry Guys the cats out of the bag lol)
  • why are boys so mean
  • If he is poking you or something like that then he likes you. but if he is hurting your feelings calling you fat or something then he just doesnt like you.
  • boys are not mean to the girls they like. Boys are nice to girls they like. Hes just not that into you. Im sure there are other males out there.
  • how old is the boy because after 15yrs old it should stop or may be his mature level isnt up yet.
  • Guys don't always grow out of being mean to girls. Iam in my thirties and so is this guy who still is being mean to me. Ever since kindergarten,he calls me names and tells people lies about me. I can't tell if he likes me or is just really hates me? I never did a mean thing to him. I still think he is a doushbag, ass clown who needs some manners.
