Question

Help answer this question below.

Two days ago my entire left arm went numb and weak, I went to the ER and after a multitude of tests they confirmed 'nothing serious' was wrong and suggested it would go away on it's own. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? It's driving me crazy!!

Cyndi, if you had a thorough exam and nothing was found wrong, heart or otherwise, just try to relax and wait it out. I had a similar thing once with my right arm. The doc diagnosed a pinched nerve. He said it would probably go way on its own soon. He was right, it did.

I think that I would go see a chiropractor.
    Good luck with it.

I had something similar in the summer of 2005 when I was in the middle of a very acrominious divorce from my first wife, when we were still sharing the same house.

I got these symptoms in both arms and legs at the same time.

I rang the emergency health hotline and the only thing they could suggest was stress, which sounded feasible.

I was OK again after about three or four hours, but it was certainly scary.

    Are you okay? <worried>
I know that a NYC doctor would never tell someone it is nothing serious and that the problem will go away on its own. It's not professional and doesn't strike me as a good medical opinion.
I'm not suggesting that you hightail it to NY or anything, as I am sure it is nothing serious. But if you are in any type of discomfort, a second opinion may yield to an actual solution.
I hope you feel better, Cyndi!

Maybe it was a pinched nerve? When did it occur? Was it upon rising in the morning? Perhaps you slept in a weird way and that's what caused it. Has it gone away yet? :)

Probably a pinched nerve, but that's scary when something like that happens.

It's probably a pinched nerve... I had/have one. It started as the feeling of a bee sting in my right shoulder blade, then my arm felt like it had the arm version of "sciatica"... My inside elbow and acouple of other muscles were BAD for a few days. Then it manifested in my hand. Diagnosed with pinched nerve. Nerve tests kinda proved it, and Xrays confirmed a disc out of place. Recommendation was/is surgery to repair/remove the disk and fuse the bones. I would suggest that if this is the case, and you can afford it (insurance), you do so.

My right hand has not been the same since... I KNOW it's affected, because I can't hold my fingers apart when trying to squeeze them together (a test the doctor did), when I try to hold my fingers together and straight, a couple want to bend, and now I can't do the Vulcan "Live long and prosper" thing with my right hand.

I am worried about money, and think my part of the costs would be too much, I still have most of the strength there (but tend to have problems opening bottles that I never had before), and I can still type (obviously ;-) ), so I never had the surgery.

The main problem is, even if I get the surgery done, now, I'm not sure anything will come back, since the nerve's been damaged for so long.
