  • The heart has 4 chambers called atrium and ventricles one pair for each side right and left. The atrium sit on top of the ventricles their job is to prime the ventricles with blood. The ventricles have to pump the blood either round the body or to the lungs for oxygen. So the Atrium have to contract before the ventrilces. When muscles contract electrical activity can be recorded. That is what the squiggles on the EKG represent. The p wave represents the contraction of the atrium. If there is no p wave then the atrium may have lost their rhythm. A condition called atrial fibrillation. It is easily controlled. Reagan had it and remained President ,Tony Blair had it and remained PM of Great Britain. Sometimes it s just a bad EKG reading and the automatic interpretation in the machine gets it wrong. Hope all is well keep the Drs appointment.
