Help answer this question below.
I have also had the surgery and I found it a breeze. I know you shold not do stuff for 6 weeks, but I was pain free, I only had a little bit of pulling on the site of the incision, which was just below my belly button, and that was all. That was about 10 years ago and I havn't had a problem since.
I think it would be different for different people but the doctor tells you to avoid lifting and other strenuous activites for 6 wks.
Edit: The reason why I didn't completely answer your question is that it truly is different for different people. People have different tolerance levels for pain. It also depends on you health before the surgery. When I had this surgery I had to have breathing treatments so I had to be in the hosp. longer. If someone is overweight (like I am) they are also more likely to have problems. A friend of mine had knee surgery and her incision opened up. That put her recovery back for several wks b/c she wasn't allow to move her leg. I am sorry I can't give you a better answer. I bet that even your surgeon wont be able to tell you exactly how many weeks you will need to recouperate.
It took me about two weeks. I did not have a lot of pain just sore and some trapped air for the first few days, but I was really tired.
Post surgery this is what really helped me. Cough drops for the hoarse throat and a hot water bottle. I had a lot of air in my diaphram and I put the hot water bottle on the area for a minute or two and it broke up the huge bubble which was a relief. Walking around really helped too. Although the incisions are small it is still surgery so we all heal at our own pace. Best of luck to you.
