For the most part, people who wear rings (or any jewelry) wear it because they like it, and they want to wear it.. no meaning intended. So to most of us, if you wear a thumb ring we assume its because you wanted to wear it. No other reason.

I have a silver ring I have worn on my right thumb every single day for 12 years. My best friend gave it to me Christmas of our Junior year in high school and I've worn it every day ever since.
There's no deeper meaning to it than the fact that I love the ring, it fits comfortably on my thumb, and My best friend gave it to me.
