Help answer this question below.

I have a 2003 Honda Civic with 67,500 miles. Acceleration is sluggish and doesn't shift into next gear until 4k-5k rpm and used to be at 3k-4k & when pushing gas normal, rpm goes up and drops about 500 while still pushing gas. What could be wrong

The only way to discover your car's problem is to have a diagnostic test run. have you changed the transmission fluid, lately?

- I agree that it is likely to be transmission-related, though I don't think it's a fluid change issue. Automatic transmissions are tricky to trouble shoot, and I'm not even 100% sure it IS the trans, so get a shop to look at it.
  I doubt the ECU will tell you much about this issue. Get the car actually lookad at!

- timing? If it was the timing the car would not be running well. It has nothing to do with shifts.

I also have a 2003 Civic EX and had a similar problem. I do hear a relay going on/off when this happens and the Drive ( D ) light goes off when the car hesitates. They have drive the car at the dealer and does not happne at that time, off course. I will pick up my car at the dealer thsi afternoon and a computer to capture information will be attact to it to gather more data. We will see I truly believe Honda is hiding something in here.

i dont know for sure but when your accelerating the and rpm drops, couldnt that because you just changed gears? i am assuming this is an automatic car.
