  • Remember the woman Terry Schiavo whose estranged husband had her feeding tube removed? They stated then that it takes someone around 13 days to starve to death. In my opinion it is an inhumane way to die. May she rest in peace.
  • I think it's very dependant on circumstance ie. the amount of fat stores, the amount of calories burned etc. A person without sustanince would die of dehydration before they died of starvation.
  • I think its fair because I was discussing a time line and an example. Terry was not ill she was brain damaged. In any case, lets not forget dehydration along with starving due to lack of food. It can take up to 3 weeks and that is pushing it...
  • i heard that if you have a healthy diet you could live without food for about 3 weeks before dying
  • A person can die after going 8-12 weeks without food but an extremely obese person can live up to 150 days without food.
  • That probably depends on the person and on how active and healthy they are during that time frame
  • My sister is entering her eighth week without food. She has pancreatic cancer and began her 8-week journey without nutrition in very poor and thin condition. When her intestines became blocked she had to stop eating and has been on IV pain meds only for 7 1/2 weeks and is still living, although we expect her to die any day. She is 49 yrs. old and a tough girl. God bless her.
  • I lived without real food for about 2 years...once in a while i would eat something real but it would make me so sick...so i just stopped eating anything but crackers for those two years...and water...it sucked...but now after getting better i wish i were still sick considering all the weight i gained since then haha...
  • an average male adult can easily last 14 to 20 days without food as long as they have plenty of water. after the first week the body does not recognize hunger. if you are 20 lbs overweight, like me, i would guess at least 40 to 80 days. many prisoners in different parts of the world have gone on hunger strikes and a few have lasted around 100 days before they were forced to take nutrition
  • between three to five weeks. Depends on the person and the amount of body fat.
  • according to research, 30 days is the max without food but have an intake of water. without water, u can die sooner.
  • I think I've heard that you can't survive without drinking for more than a week.
  • how boput you do it and then tell us. JJ LOL :P
  • never tried!!!:)
  • for me, thats between breakfast and lunch
  • about a month. i could make it for 35 days.
  • Terri Schiavo died from dehydration -- not starvation. According to the ME report, her fat stores were intact. Death via dehydration generally takes 1-2 weeks; starvation much longer. But back to the original question. If by "food" you specifically mean orally ingested nutrition, a person can survive indefinitely without food (meaning living as long as anyone else can live). Nutrition can be supplied to the body without being orally ingested. Enteral and parenteral nutrition that is directly infused through tubes inserted into the gut or circulation are generally not viewed as food by the general public, and certainly not by the medical community. But if by "food" you are referring to any sort of nutrition whatsoever, most healthy well nourished people can go about 6 weeks before dying; however, fat stores become depleted at around 3-4 weeks.
