Suicidal tendancies, as an aspect of mental health and mental health afflications, such as depression, schizophrenia, borderline personality, manic depressive etc can run in in families.

Suicide itself is just an act and if it is found as a pattern within a family, it is likely because there is a commonly inherited mental health issue or chemical imbalance.

imbalance is based on a belief that there is a norm

opposing view points are tough situations because nobody wants to be skeptical of their own faults

Hey Good Morning :o) I am not talking about an imbalanced life. I am talking about actual, measurable chemical imbalances in the brain. They are real. That was part of my field of study. Yes, you are right - we have to be careful to suggest there is a "norm", but brain chemistry is measured in ranges and if someone is outside of that range, they are imbalanced. Some imbalances can be corrected without medication - they can be corrrected with adjustments to sleep cycles, diet etc. Others NEED meds and others still can not be corrected. Our brains are really the last frontier of science and there is so much we don't understand where actual science and the art of psychology cross.

I have always wondered that myself. I have been "on the suicide train" since the age of 13. I "got off the train" a few years ago. Curious because my mother attempted suicide when she was 16 and now at the age of 39 her death is unknown and my father did commit suicide. Coincidence or just a messed up family.?

Yes. My boyfriend committed suicide about a year after his older brother did so.

Well, hopefully suicide in the mid teens doesn't.. older than that, it might be possible. Mentality and certain types of moods are certianly carried in your genes, my dad is also very dysfuntional when it comes to communicating when other people, just as me. Some of these types of mood and behaviour patterns might spur suicide

I just happened to remember a few years ago here, a young man took his life. Everyone in the community was a-buzz over it and the family was very tight-lipped about it. It was never disclosed the reason, then about 2 years after that the father killed himself. Just made me wonder.
Avatar GreenFreak Jun, 24 2008 at 03:50 AM
well, he (the father) was obviously wrecked.. that has nothing to do with genetics.
You say it was a former member?

Not an AB member. I meant in my location - the community where I live.
