According to Hindus, the caste is division based on the duites they performed in a society. However, this dogma has changed as the modern age does not work based on the olden system. But caste is still relevent among Hindus as this is what describes what class or a catagory a person belonged to as far as his ancestors were concerned.

In Indian cities even the most educated and literate ppl still follow the caste system when it comes to the marriages, however, on the day to day basis, Hindus no longer show bais or prejudice based on the caste.

In rural area this still exists and some high class Hindus are very rigid to their stand on caste as this benefits them in society. They are too scared to loose their position which their grandfathers held. They are unwilling to let the caste system go. Many low caste Hindus have sought solace in other religion where equal status is given to them, one of the major reason for mass conversion in India.
