Ecstasy is classified as a euphoric empathogen, a stimulant and a phenethylamine. You can find more information here:

Don't know why somebody downrated this perfectly legitimate question, but I rated you back up. (I know somebody who's taking it, and am already planning for their funeral.) But they're having a wonderful time; a short life but a merry one.

Im not sure it's "medical" per se, but it is a word commonly used to describe many drugs, both legal and illegal, that cause a strong sense of well-being and pleasure. Derived from the word euphoria.

Euphoria (noun): A feeling of great happiness or well-being, commonly exaggerated and not necessarily well founded.

Other euphoric drugs are cocaine, GHB, cannabis, and heroin.

There is also 4-Methyl-aminorex, a stimulant drug commonly known as "Euphoria" and "U4EA."
