My daughter 28 has a boyfriend of 10 yrs - just got engaged. she meets lots of people but he criticises them. Only friends they have are his friends. No verbal/physical abuse but how do I help her see his control?

    I will offer a very valuable suggestion, STAY out of it. If you do interfere and tell her how you feel, she will grow to resent you NOT him. She is old enough to see the forest thru the trees expecially after 10 years. If she chooses not to speak up, it is apparently not that important to her. I DONT mean to be disrespectful but it is not your business or anyone else's, it is between the couple only.

    Some people, believe it or not, like to be controlled by others. these are passive, co-dependents. is this the case with your daughter? if they have been dating for 10 years, they both have settled into a routine, that maybe they both agree with. possible?

    You need to make sure that she sees what's going on and that she confronts him. She needs to say that her friends are important to her and that he has no right to judge them.
