Who is Richard Dawkins?
-
Personally I think that if religious people are right about their religious beliefs then atheists like Dawkins, Hitchens and Harris would not be selling the books and booking the crowds that they do. If religions were right, it would be a simple, "Mr. Dawkins, you are wrong because of X, Y and Z," and that would be the end of it.

Insecurity.

In the words of Alister McGrath, "Dawkins simply offers the atheist equivalent of slick hellfire preaching, substituting turbocharged rhetoric and highly selective manipulation of facts for careful, evidence-based thinking. Curiously, there is surprisingly little scientific analysis in The God Delusion. There's a lot of pseudoscientific speculation, linked with wider cultural criticisms of religion, mostly borrowed from older atheist writings. Dawkins preaches to his god-hating choirs, who are clearly expected to relish his rhetorical salvoes and raise their hands high in adulation."

He challenges their belief system. Everything that they have faith in since childhood, in many cases, and which has shaped their lives, is denied by atheists. How can someone who believes they are going to be saved and transported up into the sky, not be offended by someone telling them they will just be buried in the ground and that is the end of everything for them?
-
Threatened is the right word. Offended is just a cop-out and a catch-all reply designed to avoid any and all issues they either don't want to or can't intellectually address
-
For the same reasons some "Christians" are threatened by evolution, science, and homosexuality ... their faith is weak.
-
I don't think we have much to worry about from him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT236A7mwPw

Not me. Richard Dawkins has the same -passions, defects, strenghts, pains, etc- as myself and anyone else in the world. He is part of the creation. My 2 cents.
-
Alright, let me demonstrate. Jews are greedy, Muslims are violent bombers, Hindus worship hamburgers, and Buddhists are a bunch of sissy wimps. What, you're offended? It's just an opinion. I don't hold those views, but can you see what I mean? To have someone tell a Christian "God is a lie, you're all insane" is a slap in the face. For the majority of Christians, their faith is the center of their lives. To be told that it's empty and that they are essentially stupid, gullible, and ignorant is incredibly offensive.
-
To have one try to dash what you have worked for all your life to achieve may have something to do with it.
-
I don't know why anyone cares what he says, it doesn't bother me at all.
-
No one I know " feels threatened, offended or otherwise" cares about the comments of people like Dawkins. Even his peers have told him to stick to biology, because his book is full of holes. In fact, AB is the only place I see any discussion still going on.
-
he challenges their medium of mind control over the human population
-
Whoever DR'd this just now simply proves the point.
-
I don't know any that are. I know some that don't like the way he portrays most Christians as idiots, but none that are threatened or offended.
-
Never heard of him.

I don't feel the least bit threatened or offended by Dawkins. He is simply an intelligent atheist with his share of opinions and assumptions just as intelligent Christians have their share of opinions and assumptions. I care about his salvation but I don't care about his personal life. He doesn't effect me in any way.
