    First parenthesis: 1/2+1/3=3/6+2/6=5/6

    Second parenthesis: 1/4+1/8=2/8+1/8=3/8

    (5/6)/(3/8)=(5/6)*(8/3)=(5*8)/(6*3)=<cancel 2>(5*4)/(3*3)=20/9=2 and 2/9

    The Special One

    X^-1 is the same as 1/x. So, just re-write your equation to something that you can understand a little bit better.

    [(1/2) + (1/3)] / [(1/4) + (1/8)]
    The easiest thing to do next is the simplify the numerator and denominator.
    Numerator:= 3/6 + 2/6, or 5/6
    Denominator: = 2/8 + 1/8, or 3/8

    So now you're left with (5/6) / ( 3/8)
    And you know that when you divide by a fraction, you can just invert it and multiply.
    So it simplifies to (5/6)*(8/3), which is 40/18 or 20/9
