Question

Help answer this question below.

I'm about to buy a new computer, but I haven't made up my mind, as yet, what brand to buy. And what confuses me is that there doesn't seem to be a general consensus as to which one is actually the "best". Can I get your experienced suggestions?

There is not a "best" computer. Dell or HP both have pretty nice computers. Sony makes some nice ones as well, but on the more money heavy side. Myself, I'm a mac fan and the transition from windows to the mac system wasn't hard at all. I've used them all though and still have a pc. Mac is on the money heavy side as well. It all boils down to how much money you are willing to spend. You don't need to spend too much to get a good computer.

Another thing to consider is what you are planning to use the computer for. If you want to play high-end games (or your kids do and you are willing to let them), you'll want a higher end Windows system with more memory and a good graphics card.

If you are not a game player, the system is not nearly as critical, and just about any well-made machine will do just fine. Macs tend to be the easiest to use and are reliable, but they are a bit more expensive.

Also look carefully at the monitor you buy as that will have an effect on how good you will feel about using the machine. Pick a screen with low glare, especially if you are using it in a brightly lit room.

If there was an absolute Best Computer, all the other brands would go out of business. There are tradeoffs: price, reliability, support, repair service, games machines, business machines, packages with screens, printers, other goodies. Just like there isn't a best make of car, there isn't a best make of computer. If you don't know what you are doing, go for a name you trust for service and support.

Dell or HP. HP is cheaper, but if you have $3k t spend, get a high-end dell, it will last longer, and it's more powerful.

Stay away from mainstream PC builders, don't be a slave to their customer service. Here is a example on where to shop although i don't know of this site. Although this route would be preferable. Although I would highly recommend to build your own.
