The price of gas has forced me to to go the shortest way possible, but i still do the scenic route. There are just some things we should not change no matter what the cost.

Shortest route possible. For several reasons. Gas Pain The longer I'm on the road, the more likely I am to get hit again when someone runs a stop sign.

It depends on our schedule. If we have plenty of time, I'd take the scenic route. If we're rushing, the shortest route. Of course scenic routes are always the best. What are travels for anyway?

The scenic route. It is far more enjoyable than the highway. But with the cost of gas, the scenic route might be a thing of the past.

Only if I am in a desperate hurry, will I take the shortest/fastest route ... I prefer to calmly & slowly take the scenic route.

If speed is not of the essence, then the scenic route always. Stop and smell the roses attitude goes a long way especially on road trips. :-)
