My computer shut down by itself then it restarted why did it do this?

Mine will do that if there is an interruption in the power supply. Like a flicker in the electricity.

Wow, that is weird, maybe you had a scheduled program or if you don't use your computer for a certain amount of minutes there is a shut down feature? That is a baffling situation. Maybe a program of yours was going through an upgrade?

Probably a virus. Is the computer warrenty void? If it isn't, send it back to the store. Does your comp. restart, then go to the OS load screen then restart again? If it does, your're screwed. Send it back to the store or buy a new computer. My parents had this problem (with HP) before, their old computer showed this problem, we send it to brandmart, then they sent it to HP, and my parents got a 1,500 dollar computer for the price of an 800 dollar computer.

There was a Windows Update issued in the past few days. I have seen where the updates install themselves automatically and then the program tells you that it will restart your computer. If you don't notice this message or are not around to tell it that you want to restart later, then it will go ahead and initiate a restart.

I guess it could be brontok virus.

It could be harware problem or software problems.I'll try to discuss hardware problems.It could be faulty ram or ur powersupply fail.move the ram in different slot and see.If it doesn't work buy the right ram with correct speed,insert in the slot and see it.if all doesn't work it could be powersupply problem.
