What are the differences between pants, pantaloons, and trousers?

    Essentially... pantaloons are an old form of pants. Well, pants and trousers are usually the same thing, except 'trousers' calls to mind proper, long-legged pants, whereas the actual word 'pants' is a lot more general, meaning basically any clothing that can be worn on the legs.

    'Pants' is a shortening of 'Pantaloons'. Pantaloons are usually more vintage.
    Pants are usually a general term.
    Trousers are usually long-legged but can also be general.
