It SHOULD NOT stay plugged all the time. That is the reason right there. You should not connect it to power supply after its 100%. Either just drain the battery out to 10% before charging again or just use direct power supply (physically removing the battery, like I do) wherever possible.
I had the same problem too, i brought a new battery and it works as good as new the site i used is http://www.laptopbatteryinc.co.uk/ dont know if there is one in Canada for you, try googleing the battery make and model number and you should be able to find one, As for leaving it that is definately the problem,

I plugged my computer into a station that was running 230v power. It will no longer turn on of course. I would like to know what will need to be replaced to repair it. I was thinking it would be the whole power supply, am I correct?

You're reading My battery (or power source) of my laptop isn't lasting like it used to. It used to last about 2 hours, but now it's like 20 minutes. Any way of knowing if it's my laptop battery or a weakening power cord (it's usually stays plugged in most of the time)?

Oh sorry, I didn't mean my cord was plugged into my laptop all the time, I meant the cord is plugged into an outlet most of the time. Sorry for the misinterpretation...?

Altgirl- the power supply being plugged in all the time Draws power and adds to your bill because it has a Transformer- when not in use, Unplug.
