  • I think it's because they see the disability and never bothered to look past it to see that everyone has a place in this world. The mistake people make is that they feel sorry for the person when they couldn't be more wrong. They don't want your pity...give them a job and let them show you their worth.
  • We are programed to notice differences in others and be repelled by them so that we don't "catch" what they have. It's something that kept our species alive. Fortunately, our higher thinking allows differences to exist, leaving the "different" one to lead a normal as possible life.
  • For one people judge because they don't understand people with disabilities.I work with students with disabilities every day, they might have physical disabilities, mental as well as emotional disabilities , but they are human as we all are. I have worked in the field of special education as a certified teaching assistant for 21 years now, I also work another full time job working as an advocate working with developmentally disabled adults in a residential home for five years, I love the people and students I work with, the adults are like family members to me, and my students are like my own kids, so I treat them as so. One has to keep compassion in their heart and remember that no one chooses to be disabled in any way, shape or form. They are human and deserve to be treated with respect. :)
  • They judge us because they don't understand us or they don't even want to understand us. They see us as different and see the difference as something wrong with us. They can't wrap their minds around the fact that we're people the same as they are and should be treated as equals.
  • for the same reason they judge anyone else they don't know anything about... because they don't know better.
  • No, one has the right to do that in life. Never know what can happen to any of us in life.
  • Why? Ignorance, naivety, and a lack of empathy.
  • i judge them because they are a mystery. surely they excell in ways that are not so apparent.
  • I have a disability that does not show, no one would ever expect I had one, but people do judge me especially because they can't see it...They think Im lazy. I don't care, I worked for years and years I paid my dues big time! Screw em.
  • They feel awkward around them - they don't know how to react to them - what to say and what to do. Then again, there is also this idea that everybody has to contribute the same towards society. They get this terrible idea that disabled people are less deserving because they might not be able to work (quite often because they are not given the chance to do a meaningful job anyway)and might have to rely on social security or their families to support them. There is a lot of selfishness in society whereby the weaker or less advantaged people are seen as second class citizens or worse. I guess that's always been the case but it sucks!
  • Most people are just ignorant plain and simple.
  • People are just afraid of what they dont know. When I was a kid people thought it was contagious (not me but other kids, I remember thinking how dumb they were), luckily these days people teach their children better than that.
