personal physicians
A personal physician is the family doctor of a high personality, for example, a politician, king, president, pope or lord. He is responsible for the welfare of his patients and must be available around the clock.
Some examples:
- Galen was personal physician of the emperor Marcus Aurelius, then of the Emperor's son Commodus, and later presumably of the emperor Septimius Severus;
- Jacob Nicholas Bording (1511-1560) was personal physician of Duke Henry V of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and of King Christian III. of Denmark and Norway
- John Chamber was personal physician of the English King Henry VIII;
- Donatus von Freywaldt (1586-1640) was personal physician of the archbishop of Cologne, of King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway and of Emperor Matthias.
- Johann Leberecht Schmucker (1712-1786), Johann Christian Anton Theden (1714-1793) and Johann Goercke (1750-1822) were personal physician of Frederick d.Gr.
- Gerard van Swieten (1700-1772) was from 1745 personal physician of Maria Theresa;
- Johann Friedrich Struensee was personal physician of the Danish King Christian VII;
- David Ferdinand Koreff was personal physician of Friedrich Wilhelm III. And Karl August von Hardenberg;
- Emil Ludwig Schmidt was personal physician of Alfred Krupp;
- Theo Morell was Adolf Hitler's personal physician;
- Mao's personal physician was called Li Zhi-Sui;
- Ibrahim Abdel Sattar al-Basri was personal physician of Saddam Hussein;
- The personal physician of the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Choedrak;
