I had a similar problem. If the camcorder in question has a large outer cover, underneath which is a metal "tape cairrage" which comes out and pops open when you open the door, then here's what you should do. When you open the cover, is there any sort of indication of any mechanical activity, like any noise or mild flickering of indicator lights or the screen? If so, do whatever would normally cause the tape to eject itself- open the tape cover and/or press the eject button or whatever. When the camcorder starts making noise, turn it so that the direction in which the tape slides out is facing down, and give it a light, or not-so-light, smack with the palm of your hand. Don't laugh, this worked for me. Alternatively, if yours is the type where a metal cairrage slides out and then the tape door pops up and open (the kind that I had) attempt to G-E-N-T-L-Y move it outwards *WHILE THE CAMCORDER IS ATTEMPTING TO MOVE IT* and see if it completes the process of opening the door, because sometimes the camcorder's tape mechanism may get stuck in one spot due to dirt or lack of lube, a single broken tooth on a gear or whatever. If this is successful, it may not happen again. Unfortunately, I was not so lucky. My camcorder would jam on every attempt to eject, and it eventually started having frequent tape salad incidents. If your camcorder is exhibiting such things as constantly getting stuck during certain operations, requiring coaxing or "percussive engineering" to make it work again, this may be a sign of aging mechanical parts which should not be ignored because these problems could potentially turn nasty and result in tape salad.
