  • I trained my cats to a cat tree.(they have to have something to claw on) The trick is to get a tall cat tree. I put tight weave carpet on a 2x4 , added a shelf near the top and bolted it to the wall. Every time they tried to claw on something I picked them up and stuck them to the tree. An added bonus is the tree provides a lot of entertainment and exercise for them.
  • There is also a product you can buy called "PET NO" or "NO PET", ive seen it before at most pet supplies. It's an arisol that you spray in areas and furniture you do not wish your pets to get into or on. It has a powerful pungent smell that only the animal can sense, and they don't like it. Not sure as to how long the effect is though.
  • There are plastic claw covers that you can put on your cats claws although I don't know how you would put them on w/o getting scratched/bitten. They are advertised in Cat Fancy. I also knew someone who covered their furniture legs with a thick plastic thing that the cats can't scratch through. Also you may already do this but you can put some cat nip on the cat tree to make it more interesting.
  • A simple squirt bottles works well:)-or a squirt gun.(filled with water)
  • you can clip there nails or as the ppl from T.A.R.A. told me go to petco and they have special things that you put on your couch(probably like tape cats dont like sticky things) they should be like 25 bucks
  • I have a squirt bottle and it works on only one of my cats. She hates water. The other one just gets over excited and just spazzes and the last one; she is the most difficult because she doesn't mind the water and she Loves tape. Yup, she loves tape she'll rip the tape off of any package so having tape on the couch would be an invitation. Does anyone one know of anything other than a spray product (new couch) or those claw things??
