What recent event in your life had you wanting to go to a lawyer? Could you afford it?

My mother's death. Four years ago she was given a drug she was allergic to that caused major organ failure, including kidney failure (which eventually ended her life).

I wanted to consult an attorney not because of the allergy, but because the hospital lied to us about the series of events that happened afterward (like stroke and permanent organ damage). This deception had a major impact on her post-surgical recovery and our expectations for her quality of life in the four years that followed.

I don't know if we could have afforded it because my Dad did not want to pursue it.

Thanks Lefty. I just couldn't believe that the same hospital that wouldn't "lie to my Mom" by being positive about her recovery and instead insisted on telling her exactly how dire her condition was, later lied to us about what actually happened to cover their a**es. Forget the Hippocratic oath, they were just hypocrites.

I'm going to hold you to that! Boy do we need it. You honestly can't leave a loved one alone in a hospital these days. When you run, make sure your campaign includes "the candidate formerly known as Lefty" :)
