    My mother's death. Four years ago she was given a drug she was allergic to that caused major organ failure, including kidney failure (which eventually ended her life).

    I wanted to consult an attorney not because of the allergy, but because the hospital lied to us about the series of events that happened afterward (like stroke and permanent organ damage). This deception had a major impact on her post-surgical recovery and our expectations for her quality of life in the four years that followed.

    I don't know if we could have afforded it because my Dad did not want to pursue it.
