My father had ALS and as you probably are well aware, it is a difficult disease to deal with. At first, the sympton that flagged the illness was a lack of balance, or inability to walk straight. I'd suggest if you have not done so already, have the person involved go to a physician immediately for a complete physical analysis, and the ailment might be ALS or hopefully, a non related ailment that can be treated successfully.
