    I don't know about the Slavs suffering - Ukraine just beat Scotland 2-0! Now that's suffering.

    The Slavic people haven't really suffered over the years, they are just geographically placed so that Europe on one side and Asia on the other side have wanted their land. They are still there, so they must be doing something right.

    They were living on land that the teeming hordes of Mongol cavalry wanted and that arrested their development for 200 years, making them militarily backward and less able to resist aggression. Being long accustomed to tyranny, they weren't as able to resist Communism (and it has been pointed out that no Protestant country ever became Communist, except temporarily and by outside conquest.)
