  • I will assume from your question that you think, like lots of misinformed folks, that the Edsel was a failure due to poor reliability. This is simply not true. Edsel cars failed because they were considered ugly, and Ford horribly misjudged their marketing strategy for the line. Many people didn't realize it at the time, and even fewer do now, but Edsels were Ford cars, just like Lincolns or Mercurys, they had Ford mechanicals and drive trains; they were sold as a unique marque but only through Ford dealerships. I have no information regarding the longevity of Edsels but I will bet that it was and is not much different from any contemporary Ford. A Ford is a Ford.
