It is not considered child abuse because the child is not going hungry. Gazoo

Some cultures use food in celebration, as a reward, at family holidays...I think the Brits are not as well-known for their feasting as the Italians for example. So it is a function of culture and point of view. No one who loves his/her child thinks of feeding the child as being abusive..but we all agree that starving a child is abusive. I think the parents need to be educated..usually if a child is bordering on obesity, his/her parents are already there so they think nothing is wrong. Again, education is the key..but I think that will be a hard sell to some! Happy Monday Freddy! :) ((hugs))

That is an excellent question. Stuffing your child until they are 10 and 150 is just as harmful if not more then not giving them enough to eat. It's setting them up for a life full of health issues and bad habits, but I guess it's for the same reason a lot of ppl get away with starving their children. It's hard to prove. Who is to say unless they watch you non stop that they are the ones feeding them that much or vise versa. Also there are so many problems with our child services, you can have a child being sexually abused and they are too busy or don't have enough staff to do anything about it. Our gov system is screwed up here, I have a daycare and they basically said that unless the kid is about to die they won't do anything. They need lots of help.

I think you have a good thought process going! I knew a little girl who was 5 and she weighed the same as I did back then and I was 12 years old, Parents know what they are feeding there children and now adays it is hard not to know if you are making healthy food descisions. So I completely agree with you, obesity in children should be considered child abuse unless there is a explainable medical condition involved!
