Sure. Plenty of people kayak in the cold. It's very popular in Alaska.

I kayak year around. Some of the best white water is in the winter/early spring because thats when the best rains come and ya got snow mealts in some places. for about $200 you can get plenty of gear to keep you warm..... face still gets a bit cold though. ;)

depends on where you want to kayak. Sahara desert is not a very good place to kayak in the winter.

absolutely. the only extra precaution you need to take is to ensure that you're either close enough to land that if you flip and go for a swim, you can make it to shore before the water saps the energy out of you. A wet or dry suit will fit the bill. I kayak all winter long and haven't used either so I should heed my own advice.

My husband and I kayak all year long. We live on an island and in the summer months we do the Ocean route and in the cooler to colder months we tend to stick to the back bay areas. Its awesome anytime of the year!
