It's "safe" forever... but depending on how it's wrapped, it'll dry out from what's called "freezer burn" and gradually become unpalatable. The store packaging lets it freezer-burn fastest, so we always bought a large package, divided it into pounds and rewrapped in aluminum foil.

My experience with any Frozen mat or poultry is the package, re-wrap in foil and perhaps a zipper plastic bag and write the date on the package- eat within three months. My observation is when meat is frozen, ice crystals form and as the product is defrosted the crystals cut the fibers in the meat, chicken, whatever making the texture mushy and often gross. when possible dont freeze, if you do then burp out all air and stash it in the way-back of the freezer.

I recently had a bad experience.. I bought a pack of ground sirloin a couple of weeks ago.. I made it into 3 patties and froze 2 of them.. I ate the fresh one that day and all is fine.. A week and a half later, i defrosted a patty the night before by putting it into the refrigerator.. When I got home from work it was almost totaly defrosted.. I slapped it on the grill and it tasted great.. The next day and night I had diarea.. Not sure why...Can someone tell me please.
