Daily affirmations might help. Make a list of what you want to be and then say aloud every morning. For example, "I am a powerful person." "I am afraid of nothing and no one." Sometimes those things help because what the mind can conceive, it can achieve. Start seeing yourself in your "minds eye" the way you want to be and soon you will be that person!

do spontaneous things. if you are the kind of person who needs to go into a pool very slowly, the next time you go to a pool just cannonball in without testing the water, it'll give you a rush and it might kick start your drive to have spontaneity in your life as a necessity, baby steps... baby steps...

Well, I don't know what kind of situation you're in where you have to put up with that, but the only thing you can try to do is remove yourself from the situation, because once confronted with it the only other option is to fight. And if you are like me, fighting will get you nothing but pain and humiliation. Sometimes running away isn't cowardly, its just the way it is.

Like pretty much everything, it has to do with patterns. If you keep being courageous about things instead of cowardly, you'll condition yourself, and, it will become automatic.
