  • Pay your insurance, and get some more bids on your brake job, most are willing to negotiate.
  • If you don't pay the insurance it could cost way more. Fines, lost vehicle ect. Just drive as little as possible and fix the brakes next payday.
  • sort out your insurance monthly then get your brakes done
  • Yeah, I would pay the insurance although some insurance company will give you 10 days after the due date to come up with the payment - which in this case, I would pay for the brakes as long as you're getting some money within in 10 days. But seriously, I wouldn't screw around with the insurance company because everday that you are not insured, you will be charged and if you get stopped by the police (which now, some police cars have these scanners that scan your plates and know if your car is uninsured), you will pay more in court fees and your ticket(s) and you also risk your license being suspended (which is another fee to the DMV to clear that).
  • How about charging the brake job to your credit card and paying the insurance on a monthly basis?
  • How about selling your PC?
  • Buy a bus pass and party with the rest!
  • I would pay the insurance first and then shop wisely for brakes. I usually do my own work if it's simple pads and/or rotors, but I am smart enough to leave anything involving brake lines (including calipers) to the professionals. if nothing else, they have more/better tools than I do and a lift. The last time I was quoted $350 for a brake job (calipers, pads, and rotors) I had a word with my buddy at Autozone and found loaded calipers for $125/pair and rotors for $30/each. As the calipers were loaded, that saved a little labor and the job was done in an hour. Since 125+(30*2)+65 is only 250, I consider the few minutes of phone work to be time well spent. Shop around and you'll still be able to eat this month ;)
  • $300.00 for a brake job? Maybe try going to a place that will do it for $89.00 so you can afford both. With the $211 left, go out, buy a suit, then get a job so you'll not be broke again.
