Did anyone here learn the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) at any point in your education?

I know I learned *something* that sounded like that (no pun intended) in a Linguistics course, but it has been so many years now, I couldn't tell you anything about it except that I recall something about exaggerated announciations.

I know the military's phonetic alphabet, and I am assuming that they are the same. Not from education, however, but from my Coastie brother.
